About C-U Herb Society
The C-U Herb Society began in October, 1975, when eight local women decided to study the lore and uses of herbs. As their interest and membership grew, they planted a garden at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana; this garden has evolved over time yet remains a lovely gem in the community, maintained by Herb Society members. Throughout the years, some of the activities, locations, and of course, members have changed, but the premises on which the Herb Society were founded remain:
- To study the history, cultivation and use of herbs;
- To encourage interest in herbs; and
- To develop and maintain herb gardens that are open to the public.
The C-U Herb Society is a not-for-profit organization. The society develops and maintains an herb garden at Meadowbrook Park (2808 South Race Street, Urbana). We are affiliated with the Urbana Park District. We do not endorse any claims regarding medicinal or nutritional uses of herbs.
Membership
The C-U Herb Society is open to anyone interested in finding out more about herbs, herbal lore, culinary and medicinal uses of herbs. Dues are $15 a year. Members also receive our newsletter Sprigs. Workshops and tours are held throughout the year on a variety of topics of interest to members, their families and friends. They are announced at meetings, in Sprigs, and the Herb Society’s mailing list.
Meetings
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month from March through December.
